Nigerian musician Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, has expressed optimism that the Supreme Court will affirm the victory of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, in the 2018 Osun State governorship election.
In a tweet, he prayed to God to help the court to do the right thing in the face of the ongoing petition challenging the victory of his uncle.
He added that winning a free and fair election was the hardest part and expressed hope that the judiciary would affirm the people’s mandate.
The Supreme Court has fixed May 9, 2023, to deliver its judgment on the 2022 Osun governorship election appeal filed by former Governor, Gboyega Oyetola.
Oyetola is challenging the March 25 judgment of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which affirmed Adeleke’s victory in the July 16, 2022, governorship election in Osun State.
The Court of Appeal had set aside an earlier judgment by the Osun Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which ruled in favour of Oyetola and sacked Adeleke.
Davido’s tweet reflects the widespread interest in the outcome of the petition, which has been the subject of legal battles since the 2018 election.
The case highlights the importance of the judiciary in resolving electoral disputes and affirming the will of the people.
It is also a reminder of the crucial role played by musicians and other public figures in shaping public opinion and advocating for justice.
As the judgment date approaches, all eyes will be on the Supreme Court to see how it will rule on this contentious issue.
