Traffic Wales had previously issued a warning that the roads would be busier than usual over the weekend due to the favorable weather conditions.

The accident took place on the westbound carriageway, just before junction 27 Highcross in Newport.

Although the vehicles involved have been moved to the hard shoulder, congestion is still affecting the area, reaching back to junction 25A in Cwmbran.

Both directions of traffic are experiencing delays as drivers slow down to observe the accident scene, according to the traffic monitoring system Inrix.

As of 12:40 am, Traffic Wales provided an update, stating that westbound delays of up to 30 minutes persist between junctions 25 and 26, while eastbound delays of up to 15 minutes are reported between junctions 29 and 26.
