Music producer Sello ‘Chicco’ Twala has expressed his strong belief that if his son, Longwe, is indeed guilty of the murder of former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa, he should face the full consequences of his actions and serve time in prison.
Longwe was among the individuals present when Meyiwa was allegedly shot during a failed armed robbery on October 26, 2014, at the residence of his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo in Vosloorus, Gauteng.
His name has been repeatedly mentioned during the ongoing trial at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.
Statements Implicating Longwe in Meyiwa’s Murder
During the trial’s resumption in November 2022, Timothy Thobane, the former defense counsel for accused 1-4, read a statement given by Tumelo Madlala, a close friend of Meyiwa, which suggested that Longwe was the one who pulled the trigger.
The statement revealed, “I was for the first time to see Longwe Twala and I did not tell anyone or the Meyiwa family that Senzo was killed by Longwe Twala because he did not have a firearm with him instead he ran away.”
Conflicting Testimonies Surrounding the Incident
On November 15, Thobane maintained that there were no intruders in the house at the time Meyiwa was shot.
He claimed that a fight broke out after Longwe’s arrival because he was unhappy about Meyiwa’s relationships with both Zandie and Kelly.
Madlala admitted that a fight did occur but stated that it happened after the alleged intruders had entered the house.
Chicco Twala’s Stance on His Son’s Guilt
In an interview with Newzroom Afrika, Chicco Twala made it clear that if his son is indeed guilty of Senzo’s death, he should face the consequences and serve time in jail.
He stated, “My son’s enemies cannot be my enemy, and if my son wrongs people, he must suffer the consequences.”
Chicco further emphasized, “If my son is implicated and is responsible for Senzo’s death, he must go and rot in jail.”
In an earlier interview, he vowed not to protect Longwe, stating that he, Kelly Khumalo, and others who were present during the incident know the truth.
Chicco distanced himself from the situation, expressing his willingness to support those seeking justice and stating, “I will never protect him.”
The Trial’s Continuation
The trial regarding Senzo Meyiwa’s murder continues, as further evidence and testimonies are presented.
The quest to determine the truth and hold accountable those responsible for Meyiwa’s untimely death remains ongoing.
