The 5 top business Cloud service providers in Australia
In terms of market share, there are not going to be any big surprises in the following list. As you would expect, the biggest names in the Cloud industry continue to enjoy the lion’s share of the market, with good reason. The following service providers all offer highly capable business Cloud platforms that include all the features and resources needed by private and public sector organisations in Australia.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) — With well over 30% market share, AWS is the undisputed leader in the Australian Cloud computing industry. It is the platform of choice for many businesses and government agencies across the country, thanks to its comprehensive range of products and services. AWS has several Direct Connect locations in Australia, ensuring excellent performance and availability for users of the platform in this part of the world.
Microsoft Azure — Microsoft Azure accounts for around 27% of the Cloud industry in Australia by market share, making it the second most popular business Cloud platform in the country. With Azure cloud regions located in NSW, Victoria and Canberra, Microsoft’s platform also provides excellent performance for local businesses and public sector organisations.
Google Cloud — Google is the third most popular Cloud platform for businesses in Australia but its market share is some way behind the top 2. At around 13%, it’s roughly 3 times more than the next platform in our list but it’s still less than half of Microsoft’s market share. Nevertheless, Google Cloud is a very capable platform that offers a wide range of services.
Alibaba Cloud — Alibaba may have a comparatively small share of the market, at under 5%, but it has enjoyed strong growth in recent years, particularly in the education sector. It will come as no surprise to learn that the Chinese service provider enjoys a 50% market share in its home country and with a range of robust Cloud compute and storage services, it has the potential for future expansion in Australia and elsewhere.
IBM Cloud — It may only be in 5th place in the Australian Cloud market but as a full-stack platform with more than 170 products and services for business users, IBM Cloud is a viable option for private and public sector organisations to consider.
There are a number of smaller service providers but if you are looking for a platform that offers a comprehensive range of products and services, with a fast, highly available network, one of the top 5 is probably going to be your best option.
