Natasha Asghar, a Welsh conservative Member of the Senedd representing South Wales East, has announced her application to become a candidate for Mayor of London.
She shared the news on Twitter, expressing her two-year-long battle against the policies of the Labour Party in Wales and her intention to take the fight to London.
Asghar believes it is time for change and sees herself as the much-needed fresh perspective for the people of London.
A groundbreaking political figure
In 2021, Miss Asghar made history by becoming the first woman of colour to be elected to the Senedd since its establishment in 1999.
Her late father, Mohammad Asghar, popularly known as Oscar, served as a regional Member of the Senedd for South Wales East until his unexpected passing in June 2020.
Before pursuing her political career, she worked in her father’s regional office, gaining valuable experience.
Additionally, her LinkedIn profile highlights her diverse professional background, which includes roles as a TV presenter, host, author, producer at Number 59 Productions, YouTube creator, voice-over artist, and even an agony aunt.
