Here’s the Schedule for Collecting Social Grants in June 2023
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced the payment dates for social grants in June 2023.
This information was released as part of the payment schedule for the 2023/24 financial year.
Payment Schedule for the Rest of the Year
SASSA has made the first week of the month specifically for elderly, child, and disability grant payments.
Following that, Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant recipients and all other grant beneficiaries will receive their payments.
However, SRD recipients will not be able to collect their grants from South African Post Office branches.
New Payment Dates for Social Grants
For the month of June, the payment dates for different types of grants are as follows: older person grants will be paid on 2 June 2023, disability grants on 5 June 2023, and children’s grants on 6 June 2023.
It’s important to note that there is no fixed payment date for the special COVID-19 SRD grant.
Reserved Week for Elderly, Child, and Disability Grants
During the first week of each month, elderly, child, and disability grants are prioritized.
It’s worth mentioning that once the funds are made available, beneficiaries don’t have to claim them immediately.
The money owed to each individual will remain in their accounts until they are ready to make a withdrawal.
This applies to all four types of grants mentioned earlier.
Validity of Expired SASSA/Postbank Gold Cards Extended
SASSA had previously requested grant holders with expired or soon-to-expire gold cards to collect new ones at post offices nationwide.
However, the Payment Association of South Africa (PASA) has extended the validity of expired SASSA/Postbank Gold Cards until 31 December 2023.
This means that beneficiaries can continue using their expired cards for social grant transactions without needing to collect new cards or switch banks.
Recipients Can Choose Their Payment Channel
Themba Matlou, SASSA’s Gauteng and Mpumalanga Executive Manager, reassures social grant beneficiaries with gold cards that they shouldn’t worry about their cards expiring until the end of the year.
He also mentions that recipients have the freedom to choose their preferred payment channel.
They can visit SASSA offices to change the method of payment and receive their money at their own personal banks.
The expired gold cards can be used at any ATM or machine.
