Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).
This development was reported by Channels Television, stating that Governor Abdulrazaq takes over from the outgoing interim chairman and Governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Tambawul.
Governor Abdulrazaq assumed office as governor in 2019 and recently secured his re-election during the governorship election held on March 18, 2023.
His emergence as the NGF chairman came after a contest with Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state.
The North-Central region, comprising the governors of Borno, Gombe, Nasarawa, and Kwara States, has governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) who hold significant positions in the ranking.
Consequently, the new chairman of the forum emerged from this region.
In a departure from the usual practice, the NGF collectively decided to forego an election for the chairman’s position and instead reached a unanimous agreement on a candidate.
The selection criteria were based on competence and the individual’s relationship with their colleagues.
