Tragedy struck in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, as one-year-old Elaina Rose Aziz lost her life after being left unsupervised in a bath while her parents indulged in drugs.
Elaina was discovered in a “seriously unwell” condition at a residence on Top Knot Close on August 6, 2020.
She suffered a cardiac arrest and was rushed to the hospital, where she sadly passed away shortly after.
Elaina’s parents, Eddo Aziz and Kelsey Harrison, were subsequently arrested in connection with her death.
Parents Found Guilty
Initially denying any wrongdoing, both Aziz, 37, and Harrison, 28, faced charges related to Elaina’s tragic demise.
However, toxicology tests revealed that they had left their daughter in the bath while under the influence of drugs.
Aziz pleaded guilty to child cruelty during a previous court hearing and was sentenced to 16 months’ imprisonment at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
Harrison, on the other hand, pleaded guilty to charges of manslaughter by gross negligence, child cruelty, and possession of an offensive weapon in connection with an unrelated offense.
She was sentenced to five years in prison.
Aziz was informed that he would serve half of his sentence, while Harrison would be released after serving two-thirds of her jail term.
