The youth wing of Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Northwest, has publicly declared their support for Godswill Akpabio and Barau Jibrin as their preferred candidates for the positions of Senate President and Deputy Senate President, respectively.

The group believes that the selection of Akpabio from the Southsouth and Jibrin from the Northwest will promote national unity and inspire confidence among party members nationwide.

Experience and Contributions to Party’s Success Emphasized

According to the Northwest APC Youths Leader, Abdulhamid Umar Moh’d, both Akpabio and Jibrin possess extensive experience and have demonstrated remarkable achievements throughout their political careers.

The youth leader stressed that their contributions were instrumental in securing victory for the President-elect in the recent polls.

Moh’d highlighted Akpabio’s decision to set aside his own presidential ambitions to support Bola Tinubu and Jibrin’s significant role in APC’s triumph in the Northwest region.

He noted that the strategic importance of their respective regions, with the Southsouth providing the second-highest votes for the party nationwide and the Northwest consistently delivering the highest vote share in the North, specifically citing Kano State’s unwavering support for APC in every election.

Support for Pan-Nigerian Leaders with Integrity and Prudent Management

The youth leader argued for the need to have experienced leaders who are committed to supporting President-elect Tinubu.

He emphasized the importance of individuals who have been tested, trusted, and have demonstrated integrity, character, and prudent management to lead the Senate.

Therefore, he asserted that Akpabio and Jibrin were fitting choices for these leadership positions.

Moh’d proposed that, considering the President-elect and Vice President-elect’s origins in the Southwest and Northeast regions, respectively, the Senate President’s role should be zoned to the Southsouth, while the Deputy Senate President’s role should be allocated to the Northwest.

This suggestion further reinforced the notion that Akpabio and Barau are seasoned and capable lawmakers deserving of these positions.
