EFCC Chairman Challenges Zamfara Governor’s Accusations

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrashid Bawa, has responded to the call made by the Governor of Zamfara state, Bello Matawalle, for his resignation.

In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Bawa addressed the accusations of corruption leveled against him by the governor.

He urged Matawalle to provide evidence if he has any records of fraudulent activities.

Bawa emphasized that while no one is completely free of wrongdoing, it is crucial to avoid associating innocent individuals with the crimes of others.

Z on TDPel Media‘s Accusations and Call for Resignation:

Governor Matawalle had previously demanded the resignation of the EFCC boss, claiming that Bawa needed to answer for corruption-related matters.

Matawalle accused Bawa of illicitly enriching himself and urged him to step aside and submit to an inquiry.

EFCC Chairman Responds to the Allegations:

In his response, Bawa acknowledged that no human being is entirely untainted by wrongdoing.

However, he challenged Governor Matawalle to present any evidence of fraudulent activities if he possesses them.

Maintaining the Separation of Cases:

Bawa stressed that it is essential to uphold the principle of individual responsibility. He highlighted the need to avoid linking innocent individuals with the crimes committed by others.

The chairman noted that the EFCC is currently interrogating a former minister in relation to an alleged involvement in a N25 billion case, demonstrating the commission’s commitment to uncovering corruption.
