A man, 31, has been charged with the murder of his grandmother.
Verushan Manoharan appeared in Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, accused of fatally stabbing 89-year-old Sakunthala Francis.
At around 9.20 p.m. on Tuesday, emergency services were summoned to a residence in Brigstock Road, Croydon, south London.
Although paramedics attempted to revive the elderly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Manoharan was detained a short time later at another Croydon location.
He appeared before Croydon Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on Monday for a bail hearing.
Manoharan is scheduled to appear in the same court on July 21.
