A fisherman in Florida discovers a potential human hand in a canal

A Florida fisherman had a startling discovery when he stumbled upon what he believed to be a human hand at the bottom of a canal. Concerned for public safety, he immediately reported it to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived at the Matlacha waters and retrieved the item, only to discover that it was not a human hand, but a mannequin’s.

According to a post on Facebook, Cpl. Jay Brett was able to secure a mini barge to retrieve the artificial appendage. The post also included a picture of the fake white hand, which was missing a pinky finger.

The officials added a humorous comment, stating that they were “ready for every matter at hand.”

However, the mannequin hand appeared to be so realistic that it caused confusion and concern amongst the local residents. One person, David Marsch, told NBC-2 that “it looks real, yeah, if you see it laying in the water.” Another resident, Dan Gabriel, speculated that the recent Hurricane Ian could have been the cause of the hand’s appearance in the canal, adding that “God still knows what’s under the water.”

While the discovery turned out to be a false alarm, it serves as a reminder to always report suspicious objects to the authorities to ensure the safety of the community.
