After being struck by a vehicle attempting to escape arrest, a police officer was left writhing in pain and screaming.
After pursuing a Ford car on Monday night and attempting to stop it in a typically quiet suburban street, police were able to capture the terrifying moment on camera in the northern Adelaide suburb of Paralowie.
The Tolley Close cul-de-sac was blocked off by two police vehicles positioned on each side of the road, and when the car approached, it sped through the small opening and struck the officer.
All we could hear were groans, so we quickly turned to see, and there he was. Local neighbour Joshua Smith told 9News that they subsequently learned that a police officer had been struck and one of his legs had been broken.
He saw the automobile speed away, its tyres ruptured, leaving a trail of dark rubber on the pavement.
Des Busch, another resident, said that while he was relaxing in the living room, he heard a vehicle speeding down the street.
Then there was a blast, and when we glanced outside, we saw cops lights all over the place.
The officer’s leg was severely bruised when he was taken to Lyell McEwin Hospital.
Around 9 o’clock in the evening, police attempted to stop the blue car on neighbouring Mildara Ave, but it drove away.
Shortly after hitting the police officer, the abandoned automobile was discovered on Kalimna Crescent in Paralowie.
Police were called to allegations of a man being discovered unconscious in an alleyway off the neighbouring Cawarra Crescent thirty minutes later.
Before entering the passageway, the guy allegedly attempted to open a roller door, according to witnesses.
The 36-year-old was taken to the hospital in a severe condition and is still there.
Police were looking into the man’s possible involvement in the officer’s hit-and-run.
