Earlier this week, Soccer Laduma reported that Chiefs were looking to offload Kearyn Baccus, and had even offered the 30-year-old an exit package during the January transfer window.
Baccus hasn’t enjoyed regular game time since Stuart Baxter came in as head coach at the end of last season, and as he now heads into the final stages of his contract, his agent Mike Makaab believes it’s inevitable that there won’t be a contract extension.
“It’s highly unlikely that he’ll sign a new contract come the end of the season,” Makaab said on Gagasi FM, as quoted by iDiski Times.
“We will be on the lookout for opportunities for him. It’s disappointing because I think Kearyn really is a top class player, just unfortunately hasn’t found favour with the current technical staff – and we have to accept that.
“We’ve just got to make sure that we do what’s in his best interest… There has been very little movement from their side. If they are not offering him a contract extension now, then it’s clear that the likelihood is that he’ll be leaving the club at the end of the season.”
Chiefs are currently fourth on the DStv Premiership standings
Overall, Baccus has played 48 matches for the Glamour Boys, but he only started one match for Chiefs in the 2021/22 season.
Amakhosi will next be in league action when they face Cape Town City on 15 February.
