Anambra NUJ Asks Anglican Dioceses To Reposition Paul University Awka

Anambra State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, has called on the fifty-five Dioceses of the Anglican Communion to join hands to reposition Paul University Awka.

Its Chairman, Dr Emeka Odogwu made the call when the executive members of the Union paid a visit to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Venerable Professor Obiora Nwosu, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Stella Okunna, as part of its familiarization tour.

Correspondent Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that Dr Odogwu who expressed worry over the present state of the institution, said that the institution will be best of its kind if the fifty-five dioceses would combine efforts to sponsor it.

He commended the management of Paul University for choosing Professor Okunna as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor, describing the decision as a new dawn for the university, and assured that Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists will continue to support the institution and project its activities.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Venerable Professor Nwosu commended members of the Union for choosing Dr Emeka Odogwu and his team to pilot its affairs, describing Dr Odogwu as a man with the pedigree and contacts to reposition the organization.

In a Speech, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Paul University Awka, Professor Okunna who emphasized the need for peace and unity among members of the union, revealed that plans have been concluded for “Professor Chinyere Stella Okunna Communication and Media Studies Town and Gown Series”, an event that will collaborate with the NUJ Anambra state, for the benefit of Mass Communication students, practicing journalists, and the society at large.

In a vote of thanks, the Secretary of the Union, Comrade Aloysius Ofordile commended Venerable Professor Nwosu and Professor Okunna on their visions for Paul University which he believed will come to fruition soon, and promised that the Nigeria Union of Journalists will continue to partner and support the institution where necessary, for the betterment of the society.

Present during the event were the Vice Chairman, Comrade Ngozi Obileri, Treasurer, Comrade Ogemdi Ozoemenam, John Ndu, Financial Secretary, Okechukwu Onuegbu, Assistant Secretary, and Ifeyinwa Iloanya Auditor.
