The Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has announced plans to immortalize the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Newspapers and Printing Corporation, publishers of National Light Newspapers, Awka, Sir Chuka Nnabuife, at the State NUJ Secretariat, as one of the great achievers in media industry in the State.
The Chairman of the union, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, who disclosed this at National Light Newspapers headquarters in Awka, when he, alongside other officials of the union visited Sir Chuka as part of familiarization tour, lauded the achievements of the MD/CEO in the State newspaper industry.
He said the Anambra NUJ will name its prospective indoor sports centre after Sir Chuka, as a way of keeping memories of his numerous contributions in media sector alive years after he might have left office.
While assuring that his administration will always focus on its vision of repositioning journalism profession and NUJ in the State, Dr Odogwu commended Sir Chuka for his supports to the State’s NUJ since he assumed office, and solicited its sustenance.
Responding, Sir Chuka pointed out that Dr Odogwu has long before his emergence as the Anambra NUJ Chairman, remarkably exhibited qualities of good leadership and love for journalism profession, and expressed hope that Dr Odogwu and his team will perform creditably.
He appreciated the leadership of the union for deciding to honour him, and promised to keep supporting the union.
In a remark, the Editor-In-Chief of the Anambra Newspapers and Printing Corporation, Mrs. Rose Oranye extolled the newly elected Executive of the union for already acting towards actualization of campaign promises, and encouraged them to always make the constitution of the union their guide.
On his part, the Treasurer of the union, Comrade Ogemdi Ozoemenam assured that the Dr Odogwu-led administration will not disappoint members of the union, but will deliver on its mandate.
