McCarthy revealed last year that he had been keeping an eye on 28-year-old Argentinian forward Facundo Juarez, whom he had been keeping an eye on.
AmaZulu, on the other hand, missed out on bringing Juarez to the club during the transfer window, and coach McCarthy has revealed further details about the latest circumstances that thwarted the recruitment.
“Facundo Juárez everyone knows that was my marque signing, marque player that I wanted,” McCarthy told reporters, as quoted by iDiski Times.
“Some complications and then the player suffered an injury as well throughout the mid-season, so we don’t know the length of how serious the injury is.
“So the club felt like they didn’t want to risk all the resources on getting the player, and maybe he’s not at the level where I wanted him to be, and then you got to get him right, and you want to bring him in, and you want to bring him to hit the ground running.
“You bring him in, and now you got to do rehab, and it’s two, three months that I can’t afford to have the player that you desire, but you can’t use him because he’s injured, so there were a lot of factors, so we didn’t get that.”
