Denise Bell and Alan Shaw were engaged nearly 30 years ago, when he proposed to her at the Asda checkouts where she was workng.
They admit that ‘life got in the way’ and that they had to put off getting married multiple times despite their desire to do so.
After winning £90,000 on the lottery, they can now have their dream wedding in Las Vegas.
‘We’ll marry finally,’ Denise, 71, remarked.
‘We’ve always thought it would be amazing to get married in Las Vegas.
‘So, we can do that now.’
She and her 74-year-old fiancé Alan were among eight Arnold, Nottinghamshire, neighbors who won a total of £270,000 in the People’s Postcode Lottery yesterday.
Seven of the neighbors won £30,000, including Alan, while Denise won £60,000 with two tickets.
Currently, the mother of two works with disabled and learning-disabilities children.
However, she stated that before the wedding she intends to pay for a hip replacement privately.
Denise was overjoyed and exclaimed, ‘I can get a new hip!’
‘I’ve been on a waiting list for over two years, but now I can go private, which will be great because I’ve been in a lot of pain recently.
‘I was talking to my daughter when I was very sore last weekend and I said to her, “I’d love to win the lottery so I could get my hip done,” and then only a few days later the Postcode Lottery is at my front door.
‘I can’t believe it… I’m lost for words.
‘It’s more money than we’ve ever had.’
