Despite being linked to a number of players, the Glamour Boys failed to land not even a single transfer target during the recently concluded January transfer window.
Kaizer Chiefs were reportedly trying to lure the likes of Teboho Mokoena, Sipho Mbule, Siyethemba Sithebe, Victor Letsoalo, Abubeker Nassir and Ashley Du Preez to Naturena however they ultimately failed to do so.
Amakhosi head coach Stuart Baxter has since blamed Mamelodi Sundowns for his side’s wayward transfer window after two of their targets ended up at the Brazilians (Mokoena and Nassir)!
Baxter pins Kaizer Chiefs’ frustrating transfer window on Mamelodi Sundowns
“I think it’s easy to have these perceptions given what’s gone on so I can’t say I don’t understand what the supporters are feeling,” Kaizer Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter said as quoted by TimesLive.
“But I can assure them there’s a lot more that goes on in terms of targeting people, getting knocked back, realising that in the open market there’s one club (Mamelodi Sundowns) that holds all the trump cards. If we’re interested in a player who they’re interested in, pretty much the chance is he’s going to go there.”
Baxter on the importance of new signings
“If you’d have said would it have been nice to get Teboho Mokoena in, yeah, it would have been nice,” the Kaizer Chiefs mentor further added regarding the prospect of signing the Mamelodi Sundowns man.
“I believe our squad is developing and some of the individuals are developing. But you could always use the injection of a player. That has a price and is it better than what you have and is it worth what you pay for?”
