Rantsane Secondary School in Qwa Qwa, Free State, is in a state of shock and grief following the tragic murder of a beloved security guard on Thursday night, May 18th.
The provincial education department revealed that a learner was present and witnessed the horrifying incident.
The deceased, Tsoho Samuel Motlokoa, was highly regarded as a “father figure” among the students at Rantsane, according to the school’s principal, Sekgokgo Molete.
Makalo Mohale, the Free State Education MEC, disclosed that Motlokoa was shot four times by an unidentified suspect wearing a balaclava who managed to gain entry into the school premises.
A Grade 12 learner who witnessed the attack stated that it took place at 22:00 on Thursday, and the victim was fatally shot in the neck.
Sadly, Motlokoa was declared dead at the scene.
Expressing deep sorrow, Mohale, who assumed office in March, stated, “This is the most painful news I have had to deal with since assuming office.”
He extended heartfelt condolences to Motlokoa’s family and friends on behalf of the entire education fraternity.
The police are currently conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Additionally, the school principal emphasized that both learners and educators will receive psychosocial support during this difficult time.
