Ben Simmons, a guard for the Nets, remains sidelined due to injuries. Simmons underwent an MRI exam which revealed back inflammation, according to head coach Jacque Vaughn.
Although he is considered day-to-day, there is no set timetable for his return. Vaughn stated that the team wants Simmons back when he is capable of playing, but the priority is to ensure that his back and knee injuries have healed.
While the team has not discussed shutting Simmons down for the season, his latest string of injuries began with soreness in his left knee and has continued to affect him.
Simmons’ absence has kept him from improving his season-long numbers, which have dipped to career lows of 6.9 points and 6.1 assists per game.
Cam Johnson briefly exited the game due to a bloody nose but returned later to help the Nets win against the Hornets.
The Nets limited the Hornets to 86 points, which is tied for the second-fewest points allowed by the team this season.
Additionally, the Nets had only five turnovers in the game, which is tied for their fewest turnovers in a game this season.
Yuta Watanabe, listed as questionable for Sunday’s game, played six minutes. Simmons and Edmond Sumner were the two Nets players unavailable for the game.
