Thursday night in St. Louis, Jordan Kyrou and Brayden Schenn each recorded a goal and an assist as the St. Louis Blues defeated the New Jersey Devils 4-2 to extend their winning run to three games.
Pavel Buchnevich, a former Ranger, and Alexey Toropchenko both scored for the Blues, who swept the two-game season series and have won nine of their previous ten home games against the Devils. Robert Thomas contributed two assists. Jordan Binnington made 33 saves.
The Devils scored on goals by Dawson Mercer and Erik Haula, but their five-game point streak was ended (4-0-1). Mackenzie Blackwood made 32 saves.
Beginning the second period with a pair of goals, the Blues assumed control of the game.
Toropchenko scored his fourth goal of the season four minutes into the game to break a 1-1 draw. In less than two minutes, Kyrou gave the Blues a 3-1 advantage.
Kyrou has scored multiple points in three consecutive games and has 10 points (five goals, five assists) in his previous nine contests.
Midway through the second period, Haula tied the game for the Devils when Fabian Zetterlund found him alone in front of the Blues’ net.
Schenn’s power-play goal with 8:18 remaining in the third period increased St. Louis’ lead to four goals, 4-2.
Buchnevich gave the Blues the lead with a goal late in the first period, burying a pass from Ivan Barbashev with 3:28 remaining.
58 seconds later, Mercer buried a rebound off Jesper Boqvist’s attempt to tie the game for the Devils.
Despite the loss, New Jersey maintains the best road record in the league at 20-4-3. With their win at Columbus on Tuesday, the Devils became the fastest team in league history to achieve 20 wins in a season, surpassing the Washington Capitals’ mark of 27 games.
Injured Devils forward Jack Hughes (upper body) and defenseman Brendan Smith (lower body) took part in the team’s morning skate, but did not suit up for the game.
