Thursday, Bucks forward Bobby Portis physically scratched the right side of Grizzlies forward Santi Aldama’s back, leaving him with lengthy, bleeding scratches.
Two minutes remained in the third quarter, with the Grizzlies leading by 41 points, and Portis guarding Aldama, he removed the back of his shirt directly in front of the referee. Portis was issued a technical foul at FedExForum while Aldama needed medical attention.
When cameras from Bally Sports showed a close-up of Aldama’s back covered with parallel red scratches, the presenters were outraged.
One exclaimed, “That is incredible,” while the other added, “I don’t even know what to say… Consider the scrapes. That is absurd, to put it simply.”
On December 15, 2022, Bucks forward Bobby Portis benched Grizzlies forward Santi Aldama during a game at FedExForum.
Ja Morant, who finished with 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, led the Grizzlies to a 142-101 victory over the Bucks, aided by a triple-double. It marked Memphis’ seventh consecutive victory.
Portis and star big Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 19 points apiece, but it was not quite enough to overcome the Grizzlies’ accurate shooting. ESPN reports that Memphis’ 50-point lead in the fourth quarter was the greatest in the NBA this season.
On Sunday, the Bucks (20-8) will host the Jazz, while on Saturday, the Western Conference-leading Grizzlies will visit the Thunder.
