The attorney general’s office of Colombia has received a complaint against Bogotá mayor Claudia Lopez to investigate her involvement in the pro-abortion feminist assault on the Bogotá cathedral on September 28.
Diana Diago, a member of the Democratic Center Party and a municipal councilwoman, filed the complaint, accusing López of failing to uphold the law and her “constitutional and legal duty in keeping public order” and of “blaming the police commander” for what transpired inside the cathedral.
incident involving the cathedral
On the evening of September 28, a group of feminists attempted to set the cathedral doors in Bogotá on fire. The incident took place in front of representatives from the mayor’s office who were accompanying the rally during the Day for the Decriminalization and Legalization of Abortion march.
Workers from the mayor’s office may be seen blocking a group of police officers from acting in a video that was shared by the media and on social media. The authorities eventually took the feminists away after some while.
The mayor chastised Brigadier General Carlos Fernando Triana Beltrán, the head of the Bogotá Police, in a tweet the next morning about what had transpired in the cathedral.
Vandalism, I say. It has received and merits societal and legal punishment. The @PoliciaBogota commander sent me this video. Why didn’t you enforce the district policy and the Law instead of recording? Do you have a national command order telling you to do nothing and let it happen, I respectfully inquire? López penned.
López’s lawsuit was filed
Councilwoman Diago slammed the mayor for “washing her hands and blaming the police commander” for what transpired at the cathedral in a video broadcast on the social media accounts of the Bogotá city council.
Even if you don’t like it, she said, “Mayor, you’re the head of police and you have constitutional and legal obligations to protect public order.”
The mayor is the main police authority of the municipality, according to Article 315 of the Colombian Constitution. The National Police will carry out the directives issued by the mayor via the appropriate commander immediately and diligently.
The councilwoman reminded López that “the alleged failure to perform your responsibilities caused the primary cathedral, the symbolic church of Catholics, to suffer material and moral harm as a result of the wrongs, as a result of the violations done by this gang of vandals.”
“Due to the aforementioned, I requested an investigation into your behavior from the Attorney General’s Office in an official complaint. This must go unpunished; you must carry out your responsibilities, protect the city and its citizens, and refuse to remain quiet in the face of these acts of vandalism committed by individuals who may share your ideologies, she said.
