John Bolton, a former national security advisor, described Donald Trump’s performance as “weary” and cited the ascent of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as proof that Republicans are ready for a “new face.”
DeSantis has “had a very successful tenure as governor of Florida,” Bolton said in a Saturday interview with the Guardian. “He was re-elected with a large majority on November 8.” Numerous people view him as the candidate of the next generation. This is one of Trump’s main faults; his act has become stale.
Bolton, who served in the Trump administration from 2018 to 2019, stated that people are seeking fresh leadership in light of the Republicans’ lackluster performance in the midterm elections, in which they took control of the House but not the Senate.
“There are many reasons to oppose Trump as the candidate, but the one I’m hearing most frequently as I phone throughout the nation, talking to my supporters and others about the 8th of November, is the amount of people who have just turned off Trump in their minds,” Bolton said.
Former White House national security advisor John Bolton, shown delivering a speech in February 2017, describes Donald Trump’s behavior as “tired and old.”
“Even if they loved his style, loved his approach, loved his policies, loved everything about him, they don’t want to lose,” Bolton told the publication. “The fear is, given the results on November 8, that if he got the nomination, not only would he lose the general election, but he would take a large number of Republican candidates with him.”
Republicans and former Trump administration officials, including former Vice President Mike Pence and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, are ready to move on from the 76-year-old Trump, as seen by Bolton’s remarks.
In contrast, DeSantis won a double-digit victory over his opponent in Florida, leading to predictions that he will be the odds-on favorite to face Trump in 2024 for the Republican nomination.
B olton stated that his own polling indicates Trump has lost popularity over the previous two years.
In a July 2016 speech at the Republican National Convention, former President Donald Trump declared his intention to run for president again in 2024.
“One of the questions we posed was: Do you want Trump or a new face? I believe that more than fifty percent of respondents to our most recent poll desired a new face. This will continue to be the case. “I don’t believe [Vice President] Biden will run on the Democratic ticket, and that will also have an effect,” he added.
Trump, who is under investigation for his participation in the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, and for transferring a cache of confidential information from the White House to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, declared he will launch another White House run one week after the midterm elections.
Bolton recognized that Trump still has some power when it comes to boosting candidates in primary elections, but not in general elections.
“There is no doubt that Trump’s endorsement in the Republican primary might be extremely important to a contender. “However, depending on this support or touting yourself as a Trump-backed candidate is deadly in a general election,” he warned.
“Therefore, if you want to win elections, Trump is not the solution,” Bolton stated.
