The Security Minister, Tom Tugendhat, has warned that Iran-backed criminal gangs are surveilling and targeting British Jews for potential assassination. Reports suggest that the Jewish community in the UK is being closely monitored as revenge killings by Iran.
This follows an earlier report from the Jewish Chronicle that revealed how Iran was “mapping” Jews in the UK as potential murder targets if Israel attacks Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Mr Tugendhat confirmed the reports and stated that British intelligence was closely monitoring the regime’s agents. He added that Iran is backing organised criminal gangs in the UK to carry out its surveillance and paying them to conduct it.
The Security Minister did not provide precise details but said that Iran is conducting these operations in Britain and other Western countries. The comments are expected to fuel a debate within the UK government about whether the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) should be designated as a terrorist group, as is the case in the US.
