BT Group has announced plans to cut between 40,000 and 55,000 jobs by the end of the decade as part of a comprehensive cost-cutting and workforce overhaul initiative.
Currently employing around 130,000 individuals, the telecoms giant aims to reduce its workforce to less than 90,000 by the late 2020s.
The company intends to digitize its processes and rely on a smaller workforce to achieve a reduced cost base.
Adaptation to Evolving Technologies
As BT Group rolls out its full fiber broadband and 5G network, it anticipates a reduced need for staff involved in network construction and maintenance.
The company’s CEO, Philip Jansen, emphasized the importance of building and connecting infrastructure swiftly, digitizing work processes, and simplifying the organizational structure.
This transformation will enable the “new BT Group” to operate as a leaner business with a promising future.
