A recently released video captures the intense moments when a bystander chased down Dylan Molina, who had just fatally hit an off-duty Texas detective in a drunk-driving car accident.
The footage, obtained by WFAA, Fox 4 and other news outlets, shows Molina trying to flee on foot following the November 27, 2021, crash that killed Euless Police Det.
Alex Cervantes, who was in the car with his family. However, a Good Samaritan, identified as Justin Gonzalez by WFAA, quickly pursued Molina and pinned him down before authorities arrived.
According to the video, Gonzalez shouted at Molina, “Hey! Get your f— a– over here motherf—er.”
Molina then tripped over his feet, and Gonzalez pinned him down, shouting, “You f—ing killed somebody you motherf—-er. You killed somebody! Stay right there!”
Gonzalez told WFAA that he witnessed the crash while coming home from a Thanksgiving gathering and felt he could not let Molina go.
Molina pleaded guilty in January to intoxication manslaughter and three counts of intoxication assault.
The Fort-Worth Star-Telegram reported that he was sentenced to 15 years on the manslaughter charge and 10 years each on the assault charges, with the sentences running concurrently.
Authorities recently filed charges against Cala Richardson, the bartender who served Molina all the alcohol before he left the bar and drove off.
Richardson is accused of overserving Molina despite knowing he was drunk, and in the three hours leading up to the accident, he was served eight double vodka cocktails, according to police.
Richardson is facing one count of sale to a certain person, a misdemeanour, and could face up to a year in prison if found guilty.
In a January 2022 interview with police, Richardson claimed she had no indication Molina was drunk until minutes before he left when he walked into an employee-only part of the bar, according to the arrest affidavit.
