After the California Air Resources Board (CARB) enacted a regulation mandating that all new cars sold in California be zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) by 2035, Governor Gavin Newsom made the following statement today:
If we concentrate on the significant, audacious actions required to reduce pollution, we can address the climate catastrophe.
California now has a ground-breaking, globally exemplary strategy to sell only zero-emission vehicles by 2035.
The annual objectives outlined in this plan—35 percent ZEV sales by 2026, 68 percent by 2030, and 100 percent by 2035—provide a road map for cutting down on harmful carbon emissions and switching to alternative fuels.
That equates to emissions that won’t contaminate our neighbourhoods equal to 915 million oil barrels.
“We’re making it simpler and more affordable for all Californians to buy electric vehicles with the unprecedented $10 billion we’re spending to hasten the transition to ZEVs.
California will keep paving the way for a future of zero-emission mobility.
