Cheese scones recipe


Baking is enjoyable, and nothing beats a warm, homemade scone with your morning beverage of choice. Scones may be found all over the globe, although the British version is the inspiration for the vast majority of regional varieties. These cheese scones are a family favourite, and ours include a special ingredient that makes them even more delicious. These tasty treats may be enjoyed at breakfast with either a sweet or savoury toppings.

If you want to go for maximum flavour, choose an old cheddar; otherwise, cayenne pepper is a wonderful addition. An additional slice of white cheddar, together with some cream and butter, makes a delicious savoury topping. Serve with cream cheese and smoked salmon for a scrumptious morning meal. However, whipped cream and your preferred jam are instantly recognisable as the quintessential sweet topping.

An uncomplicated snack is ideal for morning tea and snacks. Easy to bake and very light, these cheese scones are a must-try.

Ingredients

  • 1 egg

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1 cup flour

  • 2 tbsp. butter

  • cup grated cheese

  • salt

  • cayenne pepper

Method

  • Rub butter into flour and baking powder.
  • Add the cheese, salt and cayenne pepper. Add the whole egg.
  • Beat all the ingredients together and add a bit of milk for texture.
  • Back in 200°C for a few minutes until puffed and golden.
