Ahead of the May 29 inauguration of the incoming government, the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has emphasized that no appointee of President Muhammadu Buhari, who possesses questionable character traits, should be allowed to leave Nigeria.

The CNG expresses its concern over potential attempts to evade accountability and demands a thorough investigation into corruption allegations against key officials.

Extending EFCC’s Investigation

The Arewa group, in a separate statement, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to extend its investigation of corrupt practices to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of the Government.

The CNG rejects the proposed plan to limit the investigation to outgoing state governors, urging the EFCC Chairman to conduct a comprehensive probe that includes the Presidency, Federal Government ministries, parastatals, and cabinet members of the outgoing administration.

Demanding Accountability from President Buhari’s Aides

The CNG insists that all of President Buhari’s aides, including the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, should remain in the country until all corruption allegations against them have been cleared.

The CNG spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, states that individuals attempting to obstruct the May 29th event should be treated as enemies of the state and face legal consequences.

The coalition urges that key officeholders clear themselves of any pending corruption or other allegations before the end of the current administration.

Scrutinizing the CBN Governor and Ensuring Smooth Transition

In particular, the CNG demands that the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, be held accountable for his tenure and provide a detailed account of his actions to the incoming administration.

The coalition suggests that any approved study leave for Emefiele or other suspected officials should be canceled in the interest of ensuring a peaceful transfer of power, promoting accountability, and establishing good governance practices.

The CNG also calls for appropriate measures to be taken against anyone or any group involved in financing, executing, or concealing information related to corrupt schemes, treating them as treasonable felons and enemies of the state.

Probe of EFCC and National Debt

In a surprising turn of events, the Arewa group also demands a thorough investigation into allegations against the EFCC itself, along with the staggering volume of debt accumulated by the outgoing administration.

This call for scrutiny highlights the need for transparency and accountability within the EFCC and raises concerns about the financial state of the country as a result of past actions.
