In response to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday evening, Cricket South Africa (CSA) sent its “sincere sympathies” to the England Cricket Board.
According to a statement issued by CSA on Friday morning, “Queen Elizabeth II was an iconic woman who always encouraged hope and perseverance. “The king with the longest reign in British history loved cricket and was a devoted sports lover. Over the years, she got the chance to interact with various Proteas players.
The Daily Mail claimed on Friday that if the Test match is postponed, English cricket might lose nearly £4 million (about R80 million).
Reports state that while deciding whether to cancel the match, “an evaluation of the public mood as the country enters a time of sorrow will be their major concern.”
The ECB intends to start the game on Saturday and will submit a proposal to the International Cricket Council for the game to be played over four days if they are allowed to proceed.
