Warning issued for beachgoers after Bronze whaler shark spotted in Cape Town

After a shark was spotted in the area, beachgoers in St James have been warned to be extra cautious.
On Tuesday, February 8, 2022, around 2 p.m., shark spotters spotted a Bronze whaler shark. Another alert was issued after a Bronze whaler was observed on the same day at Muizenberg beach and in Kogel Bay.
It’s usually said that it’s better to be safe than sorry, and with good cause. Authorities on St James Beach have warned beachgoers in the vicinity to be cautious after spotting a Bronze whaler in the area.
They also took to Facebook later that day to warn that another Bronze whaler had been spotted at the beach.
Muizenberg beach and in Kogel Bay on the same day.

Bronze whalers are not predatory towards humans. African Shark, however, warns that humans stay clear of the sharp-toothed animal – especially during feeding time.
This is because these animals – that grow up to 3.3 metres – tend to get a little excited while they enjoy a diet of small bony fish, cartilaginous fish, and other cephalopods.
Bronze whalers, unlike Great Whites, prefer to move in packs, so if you spot one, there is probably a group of them nearby!
Unfortunately, the publication also reports that a human has been attacked by a Bronze whaler. They also added that they are on the endangered list.
