Dashcam Footage Captures Dramatic Pursuit of Suspected Migrant Smuggler

A 16-year-old boy from Laredo, Texas, suspected of smuggling migrants across the border, was caught on dashcam footage leading authorities on a high-speed chase on March 8.

State officials reported that the teenage driver led Texas Department of Safety troopers throughout Webb County, running red lights and even speeding through a construction zone.

The dramatic pursuit took place on at least one busy stretch of road and captured a patrol car rear-ending the dark SUV at one point.

After crashing into a canal, the suspect attempted to run away but was eventually caught and arrested by authorities.

Six illegal immigrants, including an infant, were found by authorities and referred to US Border Patrol.

The teenage driver was charged with evading arrest and smuggling of persons.

Texas towns and cities near the southern border often experience frequent “bail-outs” where law enforcement officers spot suspected smugglers and attempt to pull the fleeing drivers over.

In another incident, dashcam footage released by Texas officials a month ago showed a 15-year-old Mexican boy trying to evade police before crashing.

The driver and seven passengers who were in the country illegally fled but were later caught.

The incident involving the 16-year-old driver underscores the challenges facing law enforcement agencies tasked with stopping the illegal smuggling of people across the US-Mexico border.

Despite such challenges, Texas officials remain committed to addressing the issue and bringing to justice those who engage in such activities.
