Devils win 11th straight in OT

Yegor Sharangovich scored 57 seconds into overtime, and the New Jersey Devils defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 on Thursday for their eleventh consecutive victory. Vitek Vanecek made 25 saves.

Sharangovich scored his fourth goal of the season on a rebound after Jack Hughes stole the puck and beat Matt Murray in goal.

Sharangovich stated, “We just do not consider our streak.” We only consider the next game.

Additionally, goals from Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt helped New Jersey move to 14-3-0. The Devils have won 11 consecutive games for the third time in their history.

Hischier stated, “We’re a fantastic squad.” “And we have faith in each other…. We are playing some excellent hockey. It will be difficult to play against us.”

New Jersey also ended its eight-game losing streak against Toronto, which dated back to April 2018, and won for the first time at Scotiabank Arena since October 2017.

William Nylander and Auston Matthews both scored for Toronto, while Murray made 30 saves. Mitch Marner’s point streak now stands at 11 games, the longest active streak in the NHL.

With Murray on the bench for an extra attacker, Nylander tied the game with 2:01 remaining in regulation on a shot that hit Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenathaler.

“We get the puck back and you immediately give it to them,” stated Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe. “Can’t happen.”
