»Did Morrissey lie about a Secret Service investigation into his Trump assassination claim?«
Heaven knows I’m in the dark now!
Sixth Page hears the amazing musical anguish
Morrissey appears to have exaggerated the reality or, at the very least, misremembered certain details.
The “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now” singer said in 2017 that the Secret Service had examined him after he told the German newspaper Der Spiegel that he would kill Donald Trump for the “safety of humanity.” (The claim reappeared lately in a Daily Beast article about his strange politics.)
We’re told that Jason Leopold, a Freedom of Information Act expert and senior investigative reporter for Bloomberg, recently asked the Department of Homeland Security to look up its records regarding the alleged inquisition; however, the men in dark sunglasses claim they have no idea what he’s talking about.
The rock legend alleges the Secret Service questioned him after he told a German publication he would kill Donald Trump “for the safety of humanity.”
The Department of Homeland Security, which supervises the USSS, replied to Leopold in a letter seen by Page Six, “The Secret Service FOIA Office has completed a reasonable search for all possibly responsive materials. No records were identified after searching all Program Offices that were anticipated to possess possibly relevant documents.”
According to a response to a Freedom of Information Act request, the Secret Service has no record of speaking with the Smiths icon.
Der Spiegel had asked the singer, “If there was a button that, if pressed, would kill Trump, would you press it or not?” Morrissey responded, “I would for the sake of the human race’s safety.” “It has nothing to do with my personal opinion of his face or family, but I would, in the interest of the human race.”
Later, he stated on YouTube, “I was cross-examined by the American Secret Service, who were extremely courteous.” “I do comprehend their stance. Thus, everything went quite smoothly, and they informed me that there is no cause for anxiety.”
This is not the first time the Mancunian master of malaise has claimed that the authorities have come on his door; he made the similar allegation in 2007 after urging American voters to oust George W. Bush.
Indeed, Bigmouth strikes again.
His representative did not respond to our inquiry.
