Woman Shares Horrific Experience of Domestic Abuse
Jessica Davies, 23, recently shared her harrowing experience of domestic abuse, where her ex-partner Thomas Parry, who weighed 23st and towered over her at 6ft tall, brutally beat her, leaving her body almost entirely covered in bruises.
The attack took place in August last year after they returned home from her dad’s birthday celebration, and Parry demanded to hear details about her sex life with a former partner.
Jessica was left feeling “broken and worthless” after the incident, which occurred while their two-year-old son was sleeping in the next room recovering from chickenpox.
Parry’s history of abuse
The court previously heard that Parry had 14 previous convictions for offenses such as common assault, and Jessica also revealed that he had been a controlling and manipulative partner for eight years.
He often controlled who she saw, what she wore, and who she spoke to.
Additionally, she had already secured a restraining order against him after he allegedly punched her in the head when she was 19.
A courageous survivor
Despite the excruciating pain she experienced, Jessica managed to crawl to her son and treat his chickenpox with Calpol.
She showed pictures of her injuries to Parry’s family and then sent them to her mother, who insisted that the police get involved.
Parry was finally held accountable for his actions when a judge sentenced him to four years in jail, half of which will be served on license.
Speaking out against domestic abuse
Jessica chose to speak out about her experience to raise awareness about the warning signs of domestic abuse and to help other women in similar situations.
She said that she mistook Parry’s control and jealousy for love, but she now knows that she was naïve and didn’t understand what was happening was domestic abuse.
She hopes that her story will help other women identify the warning signs and get the help they need to leave abusive relationships.
