A child’s body was discovered buried in the backyard of a residence following a week-long police search.
West Midlands Police officers were inspecting a home in Handsworth when they discovered human bones.
Sunday, the police confirmed in a statement that the deceased was a youngster.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. No other information regarding the child’s age or gender has been disclosed.

A man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of causing or enabling the death of a child and intentional neglect separately on December 9.
Officers checking the lawn of a home in Handsworth have discovered what are suspected to be human remains, according to a force spokeswoman. It is suspected that the body is that of a child; a post-mortem will be performed in due time to determine the cause of death.
“On December 9, a 40-year-old male and a 41-year-old woman were detained on suspicion of causing or enabling the death of a child and willful neglect, respectively. Both have been charged with neglect and detained pending trial.
“The inquiry into the crime of causing or permitting a child’s death continues. The current occupants of the Clarence Road property are aware of the search but are unrelated to the investigation.
The current occupants of the Birmingham property are unrelated to the investigation.
