It’s been a long time since we’ve seen any of South Africa’s elite PSL soccer teams in action, but the good news is that the wait is nearly over!
Before having a long break for the festive season and the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, the most recent DStv Premiership match took played on December 23, 2021. (AFCON).
The DStv Compact Cup served as a reminder of what some of Mzansi’s elite players looked like, but the’real’ action will begin with the Nedbank Cup starting TODAY.
The DStv Premiership will get back under way in the coming days too as Mamelodi Sundowns’ march to a fifth consecutive title resumes.
With respect to every other team in the country, it’s South Africa’s ‘Big 3’ – Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns – that the vast majority of supporters are most eager to watch play.
As a reminder, Mamelodi Sundowns lead the DStv Premiership standings with 44 points after 19 (of 30) matches.
Orlando Pirates follow in second place (30 points after 19 matches), while, as it stands before learning the outcome of their PSL hearing, Kaizer Chiefs are in fourth place with 28 points after 16 matches.
As it stands, Amakhosi only have three confirmed matches this month, while Orlando Pirates will be in action no fewer than six times thanks to their additional CAF Confederation Cup commitments.
Mamelodi Sundowns have seven matches scheduled, again due to their CAF Champions League matches.
So when will the ‘Big 3’ be in action this month?
