Kaizer Chiefs had their mind set on parting ways with Dumisani Zuma before the January transfer window but they had a change of heart.
In November 2021, The South African exclusively reported that Zuma was on his way out at Naturena following his suspension.
However, that did NOT happen, and Zuma remains part of the Chiefs squad ahead of the resumption of the season this month (February).
WHY ZUMA WASN’T OFFLOADED BY KAIZER CHIEFS
According to a source within the Amakhosi camp who asked to remain anonymous, the management was indeed ready to get rid of Zuma.
However, they wanted to wait and see if Chiefs can get a player of Zuma’s calibre before releasing the attacking midfielder.
Chiefs failed to sign anyone in the Janaury transfer, and for that reason, the club bosses decided it was best to keep Zuma in that regard.
“He was indeed on his way out but how do you let anyone go without having a replacement for him?” asked the source to The South African.
“Had we signed anyone of Zuma’s calibre then he would have been released. So, on that basis, Zuma had to stay because the club didn’t sign anyone.”
Zuma is back in training with Chiefs following the end of his suspension, but whether or not he will play in the second half of the season remains to be seen.
