Father Fatally Mauled by Dog in Leigh: Tributes Pour In as Community Mourns

Jonathan Hogg, a 37-year-old father, was tragically mauled to death by a dog in Leigh, Greater Manchester.

On Friday night, his identity was revealed, and heartfelt tributes poured in for him.

Following the attack at a residence on Thursday evening, Mr. Hogg was immediately transported to the hospital.

However, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away around 2 a.m. on Friday morning.

In response to the incident, the police arrested a man on suspicion of being in control of a dangerously out of control dog.

It has come to light that Mr. Hogg was the father of five children and was affectionately known as ‘Oggy’.

His family described him as a well-loved, sensitive, and kind person who was unaware of the extent of love and appreciation he received from everyone who knew him.

The family has requested privacy to cope with their loss, as they have been overwhelmed by supportive messages.

Numerous individuals took to Facebook to express their grief. Olivia Marsden wrote, “Can’t believe what I’m reading! Rest in peace Oggy.”

Amber Rose commented, “RIP Oggy! So so sad… thinking of you.”

Ella Rose expressed, ‘RIP Oggy, absolutely lost for words,’ and conveyed her thoughts to the children and the entire family during this devastating time.

Ryan Kelly woke up to the devastating news and wrote, “Just woke up to some terrible news r.i.p oggy fly high my mate.”

Paul Kinsella posted, “RIP OGGY top lad not one bad word say about him.

Sleep tight mate. Thinking of your family x.”

In response to the attack, armed police swiftly arrived at the property in Leigh.

The dog, described as “dangerously out of control,” was contained in a cabin in the backyard

. The animal was eventually shot and killed by the armed officers.

Police were initially called to the scene on Westleigh Lane around 9:10 p.m. following concerns about a man’s welfare.

Upon arrival, they discovered Mr. Hogg with severe injuries believed to be caused by the dangerously out of control dog, according to the Greater Manchester Police.

The police force released a statement explaining their actions: “GMP armed officers were deployed to attempt to control the dog, and officers reviewed and actioned every available tactic to subdue the dog and bring it to safety.

Due to the significant risk the dog posed to the members of the public, the dog was humanely destroyed.”

Although the victim was immediately rushed to the hospital, he tragically passed away during the early hours.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in control of a dangerously out of control dog causing fatal injuries.

He remained in custody for further questioning on Friday night.

Detective Superintendent Simon Hurst, from GMP’s Wigan district, expressed condolences to the victim’s loved ones and assured the community that all possible measures were taken to safeguard them and handle the situation appropriately.

He urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward, emphasizing that it would greatly assist the investigation.

The police remained at the scene as they continued their inquiries.

Det Supt Hurst appealed to the public for any information concerning this distressing incident, stressing their determination to prevent such tragedies from happening again in the community.
