FIFA approves Ademola Lookman nationality switch to Nigeria

Ademola Lookman’s request to change his nationality from England to Nigeria has been approved by FIFA.
Lookman is currently on loan at Leicester from Leipzig, and was a key member of England’s title-winning Under-20 World Cup squad in 2017.
The Londoner, who was born to Nigerian parents, has never represented England at the senior level. Lookman hasn’t played for England’s senior team, although he has represented the country at the Under-19, Under-20, and Under-21 levels.
In 2017, he was a member of the team that won the Under-20 World Cup.
Fifa approved the swap on February 10, according to The Associated Press.
Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) chief scout Tunde Adelakun told BBC Sport Africa last November: “We are aware of Lookman’s desire to play for us and I have spoken to him as well.  However, there is a process to it.
“After this process, then comes the consideration and decision of the head coach (Gernot Rohr) on whether or when he deems it fit to get him involved.”
Following in the footsteps of Alex Iwobi, who declared for Nigeria after representing England at junior level in 2015, and Joe Aribo, who grew up in nearby Camberwell, Ademola Lookman has also made the transition to Nigeria.
Sone Aluko, Victor Moses, Shola Ameobi, and Ola Aina have all successfully converted to Nigerian citizenship.
