Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton says there are many “better option” than Manchester United for Robert Lewandowski

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes Arsenal would be a “better option” than Manchester United for wantaway Bayern Munich player Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski, who has a year left on his contract at the Allianz Arena, has declared publicly that he intends to leave the team this summer.

Because the 33-year-old is one of the most prolific strikers in the world, many clubs have expressed interest in signing him.

Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester United are all said to be interested in signing Lewandowski, however the club insists he will not be sold.

Both Manchester United and Arsenal are looking for a centre-forward this summer to improve their attacking options.

Last season, the Red Devils finished sixth in the Premier League with their lowest ever points total, while the Gunners lost out on a position in the top four by a whisker.

Sutton doesn’t see why Lewandowski would want to join United and believes that the teams that finished above them last season – Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal – would be better options.

Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live that he has ‘seen that Lewandowski has been linked. If he doesn’t go to Barcelona, then he will go to Manchester United. But why?! Why would he want to go to Manchester United? There are bigger and better options out there’.

‘Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs, at this moment in time and Arsenal are a better option, at this moment in time than Manchester United.

‘One club seems to be stable under Arteta, I am not saying Arteta has torn up too many trees, but they are in a better position and they are better placed than Manchester United.’

Meanwhile, United is attempting to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer.

Christian Eriksen, a free agent after his short-term contract with Brentford expired, has also been linked with the Red Devils.
