The announcement was made during the commencement of the 66th UNWTO Commission for Africa (CAF) in Mauritius.

One of his accomplishments was organizing the 61st UNWTO CAF Meetings in Nigeria in 2018.

Among his responsibilities, Lai Mohammed will be involved in devising strategies for sustainable and secure tourism in the post-COVID-19 era.

As he transitions from a public officeholder to a private individual attending UNWTO functions, he acknowledges the support and friendship he received from leaders of member states, particularly those from the Africa region.
