Gary Glitter, a convicted pedophile and disgraced British music singer, was released from prison on Friday after completing only half of his 16-year sentence.
Glitter, born Paul Francis Gadd, was released from the HMP The Verne jail in Dorset, England, according to PA News.
In 2015, the “Do You Wanna Touch Me” singer was incarcerated for sexually abusing three girls under the age of 13 during the 1970s, when he was at the height of his fame.
The 79-year-third old’s victim was a child under 10 years old. In 1975, he crept into her bed and attempted to rape her.
Glitter achieved worldwide fame in the 1970s and 1980s, but his fame was short-lived as he was discovered downloading 4,000 child pornographic photographs in 1999 and sentenced to four months in prison.
His pedophilic acts continued into the early 2000s, when he was removed from Cambodia amidst suspicions of sex crime.
In 2006, he was convicted in Vietnam of having sex with a juvenile. After serving three years in prison abroad, he was released and required to register as a sexual offender upon his return to the United States.
Glitter separated the young girls from their parents in order to commit his horrible acts by inviting them onstage at his concerts.
Then, he exploited them in his dressing room.
Judge Alistair McCreath stated at Glitter’s sentence, “It is difficult to overstate the heinousness of this behavior,” adding that he hoped he could send Glitter behind prison for a longer period of time, but was limited by sentencing constraints for crimes committed in the 1970s.
Now that Glitter has been released from prison, he will be subject to licensing restrictions, which will require him to adhere to a stringent set of guidelines in order to serve the society.
The 1972 song “Rock and Roll Part 2” by the artist was featured in the 2019 film “Joker.”
