Security preparations have been intensified in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, in anticipation of the inauguration of President-elect Bola Tinubu on May 29.
Ongoing Training of Police and Military Personnel for a Smooth Transition
According to the sources, ongoing training sessions are being conducted for both police and military personnel to ensure a seamless and trouble-free inauguration.
Special police units have been deployed specifically to facilitate a secure transition and safeguard public officials who have significant roles to play during the inauguration.
Security details for individuals without involvement in the ceremony have been reduced, with some of their guards reassigned to those with crucial responsibilities.
Intelligence Operations Deployed to Address Potential Threats
In light of reported threats of interim governments by disgruntled factions who feel aggrieved by their loss, intelligence operatives have been deployed across the FCT to gather vital information that will enable them to ensure a smooth inauguration.
These operatives are actively collecting intelligence and monitoring the situation to prevent any disruptions.
The influx of individuals expected in Abuja during this period has further necessitated comprehensive security measures to maintain control and order.
Security Plans and Restrictions in Surrounding Areas
The Presidential Transition Council has already released an inauguration program, confirming the participation of foreign heads of state.
Additionally, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation has announced that the areas surrounding Eagle Square, the venue of the inauguration, will be cordoned off starting from 2 pm on Friday.
This security arrangement, as detailed in a circular by the Permanent Secretary of the Permanent Welfare Office, Dr. Ngozi Onwudiwe, will affect the Federal Secretariat Complexes and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until Tuesday when regular activities will resume.
These comprehensive security measures, including intelligence gathering, enhanced training of personnel, and restricted access to designated areas, aim to ensure a secure and successful inauguration for President-elect Bola Tinubu on May 29.
