Helena Bonham Carter has called for the cancellation of “The Crown” on Netflix.
The actress who portrayed Princess Margaret, the younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II, in seasons three and four asserts that the show has drifted from its beginnings and is no longer a historical drama.
She told The Guardian, “I should be cautious as well, but I do not believe they should continue.”
“I’m a part of it, and I loved my episodes, but it’s drastically different now. When ‘The Crown’ first, it was a historical drama, but it has since shifted to the present.
Despite the dramatic comments, the two-time Oscar nominee stated that the final decision is “theirs to make.”
Vanessa Kirby, who portrayed the late monarch’s sister in the show’s first two seasons, was replaced by Bonham Carter.
Season 5 concentrated on the rocky marriage and divorce of Princess Diana (played by Elizabeth Debicki) and King Charles III (portrayed by Lesley Manville) (Dominic West). The debut of the season occurred in November.
It is rumored that the sixth and allegedly final season will focus on the late 1990s and early 2000s, including the terrible death of Princess Diana.
In 2020, Bonham Carter advocated for a disclaimer to be included to the show to inform viewers that it is historical fiction and not totally real.
It is a dramatization. I do feel strongly because I believe we have a moral obligation to say, “Hey people, this is not… It is a drama, not a drama-documentary. According to The Guardian, she stated as much during an episode of the official podcast for the show.
Prince Harry has acknowledged to both watching and “fact-checking” the popular Netflix series.
When asked on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” last month if he had recently “binge-watched” anything on television, the Duke of Sussex mentioned the controversial drama series.

Colbert inquired if “The Crown” was one of the shows, stating that Harry “had to have watched some” of it because it is based on Harry’s late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
“Yes, I have seen some episodes of The Crown,” the 38-year-old admitted before Colbert inquired whether he had seen any of the most recent episodes.
“The older material and the more recent material,” clarified Harry.
The exiled royal was then asked if he performed any “fact-checking” while watching the program, eliciting an emotional response from Harry and crowd laughs.
Actually, I do,” the father of two admitted. Which, by the way, is just another reason why it’s crucial that history is accurate.
Reportedly, Prince William was unhappy with season four of the Golden Globe-nominated series.
