Hollywood Producer Steven DeKnight Apologizes for Comments about ‘Wednesday’ Star Jenna Ortega

Hollywood veteran Steven DeKnight recently made comments about “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega that he has since softened.

DeKnight, who has produced and scripted shows such as “Daredevil” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” over his multi-decade career, tweeted a semi-apology to Ortega on Wednesday for his prior statements.

He emphasized that she is an amazing talent, and that the situation was an unfortunate exposure of creative differences publicly.

DeKnight added that he, like other writers, is on edge due to the impending strike.

DeKnight’s comments were sparked by Ortega’s repeated critiques of “Wednesday,” which is a blockbuster hit in its debut season on Netflix.

Ortega revealed on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast that she changed lines in the series and behaved “unprofessionally.”

DeKnight initially fired back on Twitter, suggesting that Ortega was young and should ask herself how she would feel if showrunners spoke publicly about how difficult she was.

The producer and filmmaker also said that sometimes stars “don’t have the full picture of where the story is going and why some lines are needed for the whole to make sense.”

He referred to Ortega’s statements as entitled and toxic.

Meanwhile, “Wednesday” is currently the second most-watched English language-based show on Netflix with 1.02 billion hours viewed since its debut on November 16.

During the podcast, Ortega admitted that she put her “foot down” for the sake of her Addams’ family character, of whom she was “very protective.”

She said that everything she had to play did not make sense for her character.

Ortega also previously revealed that filming the show caused her to cry “hysterically” due to a hectic schedule.

Despite her behavior on set, Ortega is set to star in the series’ second season and will serve as one of the executive producers.
