Balbinder Singh, a resident of Mickleover, Derbyshire, has erected a large banner above his garage in an attempt to pressure the developer of his property, Avant Homes, to fix issues that have been present since he moved in almost two years ago.
According to Mr. Singh, Avant Homes is ignoring him. In response, the developer has said that the problems have been caused by the construction of an extension, which impacted his warranty.
Avant Homes claims that it has inspected the property and has communicated to Mr. Singh what is acceptable for the company to resolve in relation to his concerns outside of those created by the extension.
The banner reads: ‘Avant Homes our review. We moved in on April 1, 2021 and work is still uncompleted. Avant is no longer responding to us. There is lots of uncompleted work. We are happy to share pictures. Don’t make the mistake we made.’
Mr. Singh says the pent-roof porch over the front door causes water to run off and down the wall by the side of the door, leading to damp and moss growth.
Additionally, he claims the bi-fold doors need their glass replacing and the internal doors need painting. An upstairs toilet seat is damaged and an extractor fan has damaged lighting.
Mr. Singh also claims that a section of the back garden has been sodden with water for months, but Avant Homes maintains that the issues were caused by the extension and are therefore not covered by the NHBC Buildmark warranty.
Other residents in the same street have reported similar problems with their properties. Steven Bosworth, who lives on the same estate, claims his house was riddled with problems when he moved in in 2020, and another couple said that although their experience with Avant Homes was positive initially, the customer service has deteriorated since then.
Meanwhile, Mr. Singh remains frustrated by the lack of response from Avant Homes, and other residents echo his sentiments.
