Idris Elba has formally disqualified himself from consideration as the next James Bond.
The actor’s name has surfaced in discussions concerning the next Martini-drinking secret agent.
Contrary to reports, it appears that Elba will not be transforming into 007, since he has decided to focus on his leading part in the BBC series “Luther.”
The 50-year-old stated, “We’ve been working on the TV show for about ten years, so it’s only natural that we want to bring it to the big screen, which is why we’re here with the first film.”
“Many people talk about another individual whose name begins with ‘J’ and finishes with ‘B,’ but I’m not that person. I will become John Luther. That is my identity.”
The February 24 release of “Luther: The Fallen Sun” will feature Elba. It is the sequel to the 2010-2019 BBC series “Luther,” which stars Elba as the troubled officer John Luther.
His performance earned him the 2012 Golden Globe for “Best Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Television Motion Picture.”
This means that the search for the next James Bond has been narrowed further.
Following Daniel Craig’s departure from the role following the release of his final Bond film, “No Time to Die,” speculation has been rampant regarding the next actor to assume the mantle.
Last year, producer Michael G. Wilson disclosed the age of the actor who will portray the protagonist in the next film.
Wilson stated, according to Deadline, at a Bond event at the British Film Institute on Friday, “We’ve considered younger actors in the past.”
“However, visualizing it does not work
Craig, who succeeded Pierce Brosnan as James Bond in 2006, was 38 years old and appeared in a total of four 007 flicks.
Wilson stated, “Remember, Bond is already a veteran.” “He has a bit of experience. He is, so to say, a person who has been through the battles. He likely served in the SAS or something like. He is not a high school graduate whom you can immediately employ. This is why it works for someone in their thirties.”
Roger Moore, who was 58 years old in “A View To A Kill,” his seventh and final appearance as 007, was the eldest Bond.
